When a new home is being constructed, it must be inspected at regular intervals to ensure that everything complies with industry standards and with the plans that have been provided. Both the lender and the city or county building department will make inspections at these times. The very first one will be after the flooring slab has been completed, and the next inspection comes when the external frame is all done. The third inspection is undertaken when the roof system has been completed, and the fourth inspection is done prior to the drywall installation to check on the plumbing, insulation, heating, electrical and framing. After the drywall is completed another inspection must be made, and then a sixth to check on the finish such as trim, cabinets and even the driveway. When everything is finished the final inspection must be made and this is when the owner may also inspect and point out any problems that should be corrected. Hopefully, these will be few. Usually a home will be completed in 8 to 12 months of starting, but this depends on how complex the building is.
